Rich & Dark. These beers are made using malt or barley with a strong ‘roasted’ flavour. This includes beers like porters, stouts, amber ales & red ales.

You can tell a malt driven beer by its red or amber colour and caramel, toffee and toasty flavours. They vary from light to full bodied, so keep an eye on the alcohol volume to decide whether it’s to your taste. Dark beers tend to suffer from the misconception that its dark colour is directly related to its weight. But that isn’t always the case. The colour of dark beers is attributed to their malt content, and it only takes a small percentage of dark malt to create a darker coloured beer.
