Each week at First Choice we have a range of top picks on tasting so that you can try before you buy!

On tasting this week:

Byron Bay Pale Lager

Brewed on the NSW coast in Byron Bay, this hazy, pale straw coloured lager is best enjoyed cold. Possessing fruity aromas which are balanced by malty biscuit notes this lager is a great Australian option with its full rounded flavour.

Choosy Beggars Cabernet Merlot

Red and black berries and is medium bodied with fine, elegant tannin. This wine has great length and shows sweet spice and dark chocolate notes from measured use of French oak.

Marquis D'alban Sauvignon Bordeaux

An intense nose with grapefruit and boxwood aromas. The palate is lively and generous with white peach and lime aromas. Its long finish with citrus notes makes for a nice change to New Zealand sauvignon blancs.

Maker's Mark 46

Stored in American oak barrels this bourbon takes in the hints of the French Oak staves that are added to the mix to give it a unique flavour - a mix of strong, creamy seared oak, caramel and vanilla.

Monkey Shoulder Blended Malt Scotch

Made by experienced Malt Men of Speyside Scotland this whisky possesses notes of sherry, mellow vanilla and butterscotch followed by a smooth taste of tangy citrus, spiced oak and sweet nut flavours.

Slane Irish Blended Whisky

Hailing from a distillery built into the 230-year-old gothic stables of Slane Castle, this whisky has hints of fruit, caramel and vanilla. On your tastebuds it starts spicy before becoming sweet, finishing with lingering hints of dry fruit and caramelised wood sugar.

Johnnie Walker & Ginger Bottles

Johnnie Walker Red label scotch is blended with ginger making for a refreshing premixer. The deep spice notes of the 35 malt and grain whiskies that make up Johnnie's Red Label are enhanced with the perfect balance of crisp and natural ginger flavours.

Maker's Mark 46 starts its life as Maker's Mark because Bill Samuels Jr, believed he already had a pretty great product. To make it even better he got some help from their 'wood chefs' and the magic combination was searing 10 French oak staves to caramelize the wood sugars, locking in the bitter tannins and keeping them out of the whisky. The result -a bigger and bolder bourbon with a smoothness and drinkability to Bill's liking. Try this very special dram today!

The world’s first triple malt, this whisky is produced with single malts from the company’s neighbouring Speyside distilleries in Dufftown, Scotland. The term ‘monkey shoulder’ dates back to whisky making heritage – a condition that maltmen used to pick up while turning the barley by hand during long shifts. Zesty orange with mellow vanilla, honey and spiced oak. Mellow vanilla with hints of spice and a super smooth finish.
