Whiskies of Ireland

It’s said that the Irish may have been the first distillers in the British Isles and, for a brief period in the 19th century, Irish whiskey reigned supreme over its Scottish rival. Parliament acted to reform whiskey production taxes. This saw the industry nearly collapse, making four leaf clovers more common than Irish distilleries – but today the good times are back, with distilleries popping up all over the Emerald Isle.

What sets Irish whiskey apart is that it must include malted barley and may include other unmalted cereal grains, resulting in four main types of whiskey: malt, pot still, grain and blended.

With great local land knowledge, a rich history and a burning passion it’s clear that there’s no luck involved when it comes to the Irish making great whiskey
